Two kinds of spa
We work on both
-
Spas attached to a pool
An in-ground spa usually shares the pool's pump, filter and heater, switched by valves or automation. Problems are often in the valve settings, the shared heater or the controls, so we look at the whole system, not just the spa.

Standalone hot tubs
A portable or above-ground hot tub has its own heater, pumps, blower and control pack in the cabinet. Most repairs mean opening the cabinet, testing components and reading the error codes on the topside panel.
Troubleshooting
What's wrong with my hot tub?
| Problem | Common causes |
|---|---|
| Won't heat, or heats slowly | Dirty filter restricting flow, failed heater element, faulty sensor or flow switch |
| Weak or no jets | Clogged filter, air lock in the pump, closed or diverted valves, failing pump |
| Error code on the panel | Flow, temperature or sensor faults the control pack has detected |
| Breaker or GFCI keeps tripping | Moisture in a component, a failing heater or pump, or a wiring fault |
| Loud pump or grinding noise | Worn bearings or a blocked impeller |
| Water level dropping | Leaking fittings, pump seals, jets or plumbing inside the cabinet |
| Foamy, cloudy or smelly water | Chemistry out of balance, dirty filter, or water overdue for a drain and refill |

Repair and test
We make the repair, run the spa through a full heat-and-jets cycle, and check the water chemistry.
If it's your home's wiring
When a problem is in your electrical panel or the circuit feeding the spa, we'll tell you and recommend a licensed electrician.

Spa care
Why spas need different care than pools
Small water, big swings
A spa holds a fraction of a pool's water at a much higher temperature, so a few people soaking can throw the chemistry off quickly. Test more often than you would a pool.
Filters work harder
Body oils and lotions load spa filters fast. A clean filter is the single most common fix for weak jets and slow heating.
Fresh water regularly
Dissolved solids build up in spa water over time until chemicals stop working well. Periodic drain-and-refill keeps it clear and comfortable.
Oklahoma winters
Hot tubs run all winter. Protect them.
Unlike most pools, hot tubs stay in use when it's cold, which is when a failure hurts most. If a standalone tub loses power or its heater fails during a hard freeze, water in the plumbing and pumps can freeze and crack them.
Keep the cover on and secured, call quickly if the heat stops, and don't let a powered-down tub sit full in freezing weather. If you're closing the pool but keeping an attached spa running, ask how we'll set up the system for winter on your pool closing visit.

Hot tub and spa questions
Do you repair standalone hot tubs, or only spas attached to pools?
Both. We repair in-ground spas that share a pool's equipment and standalone hot tubs with their own heater, pumps and controls.
My hot tub shows an error code. What should I do?
Write down or photograph the code and check that the filter is clean and the water level is correct, since those cause many flow and heat errors. If it persists, call us with the code.
Why does my hot tub keep tripping the breaker?
Common causes are moisture in a component, a failing heater or pump, or a wiring problem. Don't keep resetting it. We'll find the component at fault, and if the issue is in your home's wiring, we'll recommend a licensed electrician.
Why are my jets weak?
A dirty filter is the most common cause, followed by closed or diverted valves, an air lock in the pump after a refill, or a failing pump.
How often should I drain and refill my hot tub?
It depends on how often it's used and how many people use it. When the water stays cloudy or foamy even with balanced chemistry, it's usually time. Ask us for a schedule based on your tub.
Is it worth repairing an old hot tub?
Often, if the shell and cabinet are in good shape. If several major components are failing at once, replacement can make more sense. We'll give you the repair price and an honest opinion.
